St. Paddy's Day came early this year
The Pogues show at the Orpheum last night totally rocked, as expected. Don't know the Pogues? Read this Boston Globe article or visit the official site. They play traditional Irish music in a punk rock style. I've been a fan since their heyday in the 80s, so it was quite a thrill to finally see them perform live. The Orpheum (1852) has an old, elegant, crumbling, faded-glory vibe to it.
Here are the pics. Video coming soon!
The Pogues in the USA for the first time since '89!!!
No drinks allowed in the seats, so the lobbies were packed during the opening acts. The main lobby was so full that I didn't even attempt to buy a T-shirt. These pics are of the balcony lobby where there was a bit of breathing room.
This is above the stage.
Cool box seats.
The ceiling.
Woo-hoo! Let's start the show.
The balcony was swaying underneath our feet.
I think this is the best shot I got. ↑ Check out the large size.
Singing here is guitarist Philip Chevron, who posts on their message boards. And said "Boston is special." Take that, other East Coast cities!
The notorious Shane MacGowan giving his all.
Accordionist James Fearnley was bouncing all over the place.
After the set, they leave . . .
But come back for two encores.
The flag reads, "ERIN GO BRAGH - POGUE MAHONE." That means, "Ireland Forever - Kiss my arse."
Shane toasts Boston as he leaves the stage.
Thanks for a great time, Pogues!
