DC photos part 1
Waiting for the metro at Reagan National Airport.
Reading The Onion on the train. I saved it for you, Al. :)
Carpeted train cars!
The tunnels are quite large I thought.
Coming up at Capitol South station.
Library of Congress Jefferson Building . . . much more on this to come.
Supreme Court. I was reminded of what Paul Fussell had to say about this in his excellent book Class: A Guide Through the American Status System:
On the pediment of the Supreme Court building are the words EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER LAW. In Washington Itself (1981), E. J. Applewhite points out that people secure in their reputation for seriousness, wisdom, and social adequacy would not have multiplied syllables but inscribed simply JUSTICE, having scrutinized the five extra syllables and perceived that all were implied in that one simple word. But being Americans, they were afraid someone would find them elemental and modest and thus socially unsatisfactory unless they canted it up.That sociology degree is payin' off . . . generating plenty of blog fodder. :P
Finally, here's a couple plates I saw on cars parked at the Capitol:

Bush says he'll veto any attempts to give DC residents a vote in Congress.
