Oh well
Haven't had much inspiration to write anything lately. Last week I considered using The Apathetic Online Journal Entry Generator but thought better of it. I did take today's title from them. :P
Mardi Gras is coming up this weekend, and I will be attending festivities in both Port Arthur and Beaumont. (Seems like everybody on the Gulf has a Mardi Gras now.) I am looking forward to this especially since I have not been to these events before - back in my college days we went to Galveston a couple times and once to New Orleans. Of the latter excursion, I remember one of my high school friends throwing up on Canal Street soon as we got there - apparently she should have laid off the whiskey on the drive over. :P We left her at the friend of a friend's hippie crash pad (not a stick of furniture save the keg of beer and a dirty mattress, but near Bourbon & Esplanade, how's that for location?) and proceeded to enjoy some live music and dancing at a bar/laundromat in Vieux Carre. Next day we wandered the Quarter for about 12-15 hours until the driver of our vehicle demanded we head back to H-Town so he wouldn't miss class. (What a responsible Rice student he was.) We arrived at our dorm at lunchtime and were greeted with the respect that was our due. Heh heh heh. Well Mom I bet you're glad you didn't know all this back then!
Anyway, look for photos next week. The Neville Brothers show Al & I are going to says "no cameras," but I should be able to get pics of everything else - parades, zydeco bands, revelers, etc. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
UPDATE (2/15/07): The Neville Brothers show has been cancelled. (Thanks for letting me know, Nikki.) I reckon we will go to "Cajun Invasion" Day at the Port Arthur Mardi Gras instead.

bummer about the Neville Bro's canceling the show.
PA's MG was as good as ever. What did you think of Bmt's MG?
Thanks for stopping by, Mark. I agree, the PAT Mardi Gras was tight - think I saw you there shooting Paul Orta & The Kingpins when they were warming up, was that you in the floppy black hat? Before I had a chance to find out you had disappeared. :P
We went to Beaumont Sunday afternoon for the parade - my brother Baz and his family got to ride on a float and throw beads. I must say the crowd was underwhelming, but then again it was their first year.
I'll be posting some more on all this later this week.
Yes, I was wearing a black boonie cap. I looked at your photos and thought you had to be shooting over my head.
BTW, I didn't disappear, I activated the PJ stealth button.
;-}
Stealth mode, that's the secret! :P
