Drive through the cawntry
My research project has come to a point where I need to get a fair amount of some particluar proteins. I "borrowed" some from a cell biology lab a couple weeks ago, but I've already used them up. The original paper describing the purification of these proteins says to start with 100 grams of calf thymus, a.k.a. beef sweetbreads. When this came up in lab meeting Friday, Mike said, "Too bad we're not in Texas, it'd be easy to find a slaughterhouse." "Yeah!" I agreed. "Back home I know exactly where to go. Moak's Meat Market in Port Arthur. As a kid I used to get freaked out by Mr. Moak's missing fingers!"
So I posted a question on the Universal Hub, and yesterday morning I had my answer: The Blood Farm in Groton. Heh heh, their name is Blood and they run a meat business. I bet they are pretty sick of hearing that.
Evan & I went over there to scout it out. Unfortunately their retail meats office had closed at 1pm. But I'm glad we did the trip since I had never been out that way and needed a co-pilot/navigator. Plus it was a nice day for a drive in the countryside. I realized I had never seen New England farm fields in winter, all covered in a blanket of snow. I need to get out of the city more!

You're a city slicker now.
I'm pretty sure Moak's has been closed down for a decade or more by now...
aaah.. i harken back tot he days of cell biology, when we would run viscosity tests with sheep stomach acid and digest things in beakers for fun...
try wilson farm in lexington. i think they're more of a poultry outfit these days, but they were always good for some livestock parts.
Thanks Megan....if the Blood Farm doesn't come through I will try the Wilson's. :)
