The Blood Farm comes through with the goods
Loyal readers (such as there are, ha!) will remember my recent quest to find some calf thymus (beef sweetbreads) for labwork. Well, today was the big day. I got the stuff from Dickie Blood of the Blood Farm, who was kind enough to humor me with a picture.
Once back in Boston, I started the first step of my multiday protein purification: grinding the tissue up under liquid nitrogen. Here's a few pics of that process.
Hopefully this thing will work the first time through, but that's always a crapshoot in this business.
Well, at least for me it is.

mmmmm...looks appetizing. Any liquid N2 accidents? :-)
No accidents, thank God!
I was pretty careful with it.
Awesome you busted out with the pestle & mortar! I need to get mine out and make some spices soon.
